There are vintage finds that make you stop and then there are pieces like this - that make you put everything else down and just stare.
A quite extraordinary vintage Tibetan ceramic teapot, encased in an intricate white metal overlay of exceptional craftsmanship.
This is a piece that rewards closer inspection at every turn - because wherever your eye lands, there is yet more detail waiting to be discovered.
The ceramic body beneath is a deep, rich cobalt blue - vivid and luminous - decorated with bold red, yellow, and white florals that glow against that intense ground.
Around the shoulder, a band of red and white panelled decoration adds further richness and rhythm to the form.
Over this beautiful ceramic, a fitted white metal framework has been applied with extraordinary care. Vertical metal straps run down the body, each one engraved, each one anchored at the base by a delicate pierced filigree bow. At the front, a beautifully cast metal dragon motif sits proud of the surface - bold, detailed, and full of character.
A matching dragon decorates the other side.
The spout extends in a long, elegant curve and terminates in a finely cast dragon head - open-mouthed, alert, every scale rendered with precision.
The handle sweeps out in a graceful arc.
Where the spout meets the body, a large pierced filigree roundel - an intricate scrolling design of extraordinary delicacy - acts as the most beautiful decorative junction.
And then there is the lid - a simple, domed white metal lid - and seated upon it, a beautifully cast little monkey.
Crouching, alert, perfectly proportioned, it is the most delightful finishing touch imaginable.
A piece of genuine character, artistry, and cultural history.
Display it, collect it, treasure it.
One piece. Once it is gone, it is gone.
